Shaping - Contraindications

Even though studies have proven the treatment safe, cavitation is not be used for those with the following conditions:

  • metallic prosthesis
  • acute inflammatory processes
  • acute illness (e.g. cold, flu, stomach bug)
  • liver or pancreatic conditions (e.g. hepatitis, raised liver enzymes, fatty liver)
  • severe bleeding tendencies, coagulation disorders
  • using anticoagulants (e.g. Warfarin) or platelet inhibitors
  • Pacemaker
  • pregnant or breast feeding
  • epilepsy
  • tumors
  • cancer (previously diagnosed or current treatment for cancer)
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 30 (clinically classified as obese)
  • heart disease
  • high cholesterol
  • HIV positive
  • exposure to organophosphates, herbicides or pesticides
  • diabetes
  • past allergy or reaction to ultrasound gel

The following conditions will restrict the treatment area in order to avoid:

  • cutaneous lesions
  • proximity to organs and bone marrow
  • body areas with tattoos or significant moles present
  • scarring, hernias or skin disorders in the area to be treated

The treatment is not suitable:

  • in areas with less than 1cm of fatty tissue beyond the selected treatment depth
  • in areas previously treated with injection lipolysis, liposuction, abdominoplasty or other surgery (including laparoscopic)
  • where hernia, implanted material, sensory loss or dysesthesia (an abnormal sensation to touch) is present
